Priologic Software Continues WebRTC Momentum with New Version of Tawk.com

Priologic Software is a provider of custom applications and enterprise platforms, and has its eye on the WebRTC market. It introduced Tawk.com in June 2013, a free browser-based video chat service that focuses on security and anonymity. Tawk.com is based on Priologic's EasyRTC Enterprise platform, which was first announced at last year’s ITEXPO.

Today, Priologic is releasing the newest version of Tawk.com at the Enterprise WebRTC Pavilion, collocated with ITEXPO. This update includes three new features: Peer-to-peer secure text messaging with URL tagging, peer-to-peer secure file sharing and network statistics.

These features optimize the WebRTC solution, giving users more insight into bandwidth usage, the data channel and options beyond voice.

"We’ve been adding to the capabilities of Tawk.com in lockstep with the improvements in WebRTC capable browsers. A year ago only Chrome had WebRTC fully implemented, now Firefox and Opera are going strong. Next year we’ll likely have coverage for all browsers including Internet Explorer and Safari,” said Doug Pelton, Priologic CEO, in a statement. "Last year there were only a few companies working with WebRTC.  This year we’ve got over three hundred working on all sorts of WebRTC projects. There are probably a few thousand more that haven’t emerged from the garage yet.”

The company plans to release iOS and Android versions of Tawk in the future.

“We built Tawk.com to demonstrate Priologic’s full-stack EasyRTC Open Source framework, but it started winning awards for its frictionless user interface.

You can start a secure, anonymous video chat without logging in, or downloading, just clicking on a link,” says Pelton.

EasyRTC is comprised of three separate components that work together to make developing WebRTC apps simpler and easier to handle. Specifically, it brings together a JavaScript API, working source code in several languages, and a scalable backend signaling server that can be set out on several different platforms from Linux and Mac OS X to Windows. This combination of factors allows for simpler WebRTC coding—it also helps cover some of the differences in implementation between the various browsers that use WebRTC, like Chrome, Firefox and Opera—as well as the ability to modify current apps.

Priologic won the “Easiest to Apply” award at the WebRTC Conference & Expo in Santa Clara, Calif. for its demo featuring both EasyRTC and Tawk.com.
