It’s a short week with the Easter weekend upon us meaning we have just three stories that came up this week in the unified communications industry. Let’s take a look.

Cloud workspace provider Intellinote has announced the revamping of its user interface. The company says the re-design is cleaner with its revised layout and new color scheme to address better usability.

The UI allows multiple users to store and collaborate on files in a centralized space. “We’ve enhanced Intellinote to make getting work done as intuitive, enjoyable and intelligent as possible,” said Tony Lopresti, co-founder and CEO at Intellinote.

Dan Picker, CTO of PureWave Networks, who is an Intellinote customer, praised the new interface for its usability: “Intellinote’s new interface makes the process of completing work efficiently even easier. We’re now able to manage cross-functional projects and collaborative processes while building knowledge libraries from anywhere, anytime, from any device.”

Unified communications are at risk of new security issues, says Mark Collier, CTO of SecureLogix Corporation (News - Alert). He is the co-author of “Hacking Exposed: Unified Communications & Voice Over IP Security Secrets and Solutions” where he examined the issues at hand.

“No matter how well you secure your internal UC environment, you are going to be attacked…because it’s so much easier for the attackers to generate unwanted, inbound calls,” Collier said in a recent interview.

He co-wrote the new book with David Endler, a previous director of Security Research for TippingPoint and current director of product development at Avast Software. The duo notes that companies can fall to malicious calls from Public Voice Network (PVN) while attacks can be created using free PBX (News - Alert) software. Endler and Collier add that attackers can make robocalls and exploit a number of other methods leading to fraud.

Finally this week, we reviewed the new MegaPAC L2, the first portable workstation. TMC’s (News - Alert) Lavanya Rathnam says it’s ideal for completing many CPU-intense tasks such as 3D rendering, photography and graphics creation by using its Intel (News - Alert) Core i7-4960 3.6 GHz six-core desktop processor.
