Now Monitor Broadband Usage with Openet's 'Manager Suite'

Openet (News - Alert) is slowly being recognized for its ability to deliver quality products that enable cable customers to monitor how much broadband is used in a month. This became evident when one of the largest providers of video, high-speed data and voice services in the United States claimed to have successfully deployed a comprehensive suite of Openet products.

Given the increasing reliance on broadband for all Internet activities, from accessing e-mail to viewing streaming movies and playing games, the statement underscored how customers needed to be able to monitor broadband consumption in order to decide which plan would best suit their type of online activity.

“We are excited to be working with one of the largest broadband providers in the U.S. to ensure its customers can closely monitor their broadband consumption and make an educated decision about what type of plan is best suited to help maintain a desired level of online activity,” said Marc Price (News - Alert), chief technology officer, Americas at Openet.

Different users require different amounts of bandwidth depending on the content and services they access.

Hence, for broadband providers, the problem is one of being able to establish a pattern to understand usage trends and provide a variety of plans that can meet consumer demands. A “one size fits all” standard plan won't serve the purpose.

Openet has monitors that help customers and broadband providers, and by leveraging its Policy Manager, Balance Manager and Profile Manager, they can offer customers the means to track broadband usage in a given month and helps prevent overages.

The Policy Manager enables real-time control of network resource consumption based on almost any variable imaginable, while the Balance Manager provides complex counters and monitors to manage balances of all types. The Profile Manager helps maintains subscriber information for a variety of personalized services.

All these monitors are currently available to customers on a trial basis. After the initial phase, they will be deployed nationwide.

Opnet's NetMapper App Network Path helps provide performance stats of the network and all elements involved, as well as a history of changes within those devices within the last 24 or 48 hours. This will help identify the root cause of the problem, according to Vinod Jeyachandran, vice president of engineering, and product manager, OPNET.
