To monitor all incoming and outgoing network bandwidth efficiently which is just one of the many things a network TAP does, Mazda Motor Corporation, a Japanese automotive manufacturer, has recently implemented Volcano Network Architect(VNA) software.
According to a press release, VAN is a tool that can efficiently design and check the Controller Area Network (CAN) but also LIN networks in a vehicle in addition to providing powerful optimization features to drive more than 90 percent of available bandwidth.
The offering also offers a mathematical way to calculate the worst case scenario on a CAN bus. In fact, in recent years the Controller Area Network (CAN) has become extremely popular in the automotive industry.
“Mazda changed from our internal tool to Mentor Graphics’ (News - Alert) tool for automotive network design systems. Migrating from an in-house design environment to Mentor Graphics’ Volcano Network Architect-based design environment moved smoothly and it reduced the testing requirements and time significantly,” said Tetsuhiro Yamashita, staff manager, Vehicle Development Division, Vehicle System Development Department, Mazda Motor Corporation, in a statement. “We are happy to have improved our design quality, as well as our automotive network reliability.”
Additionally,Mazda has also newly unveiled its next-generation technology coined, “SKYACTIV Technology” to increase both environmental and safety performance in company vehicles.
“VNA has unparalleled capabilities in enabling design, implementation and optimization of deterministic communication systems, leading to profound improvements in efficiency, quality, and reliability of in-vehicle networking,” Serge Leef, vice president and general manager, System Level Engineering Division, Mentor Graphics concluded. “We are pleased we have been able to provide a product to Mazda that makes the management and maintenance of their distributed network solutions more efficient.”
