Network Instruments (News - Alert) recently announced the launch of Observer Infrastructure (OI), its advanced resource and infrastructure monitoring solution. The latest offering from Network Instruments has been developed to ensure increased visibility and monitoring of applications, as well as virtual and cloud environments.

Based on the Flexible NetFlow, IPFIX, Citrix AppFlow, and Cisco (News - Alert) Medianet Performance Monitor advanced flow technologies; OI monitors systems, applications, as well as other essential resources deliver greater visibility of services and conversations within the infrastructure.

OI also features AppFlow product support which enables the delivery of improved analysis of applications within the Citrix virtual environments. OI can capture AppFlow records created by Citrix Netscaler application delivery controllers, which enables tracking of application status codes, as well as the average request response times, and turn response times. By comparing these correlated matrices with the present application and infrastructure data available, users are provided with a comprehensive view of performance.

In a release, Charles Thompson, director of product strategy for Network Instruments, said that, "When expanding networks through cloud, virtualization, or building remote sites, teams are often forced to sacrifice visibility. But with Network Instruments, engineers do not face those limitations. OI allows teams to track resource and infrastructure health regardless of the environment, pre-emptively detecting issues before they impact service delivery. OI also serves as a component of our overall performance management platform, which combines intelligence from flow technologies and packet analysis presenting a complete picture of IT activity."

The new version of OI can effectively keep a track of Cisco endpoints thus providing accurate video and voice session views right from the call manager to the Cisco desktop client or handset. Enterprises leveraging Cisco Medianet can track media communications moving through Medianet-enabled devices via the advanced tracking capabilities of OI.

Virtual and Public Cloud Monitoring OI builds on its tracking capabilities of critical virtual and cloud components to ensure improved performance monitoring for any environment. Furthermore, by monitoring the vCenter, the new version of OI offers users greater visibility of VMware virtual networks. Various aspects of the VMware vSphere hosts such as tracking of management, and provisioning as well as updating can be accomplished with the new OI solution.
