Sensory Networks Partners with Cavium

HyperScan from Sensory Networks is a pattern matching engine that can match large groups of regular expressions against blocks or streams of data. It runs entirely on software and has been deployed in a wide range of different processors and operating systems. The offering is ideal for applications that need to scan large amounts of data at high speeds, such as Intrusion (News - Alert) Prevention (IPS), Antivirus (AV) and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) systems.

Recently, the company extended its partnership with Cavium. Both the companies are planning to sell a Security Inspection Solution that achieves over 100Gbps of performance, with highly linear scaling and very low latencies.

This solution provides Security Inspection performance per watt and performance per dollar with the help of an optimized version of Sensory's HyperScan pattern matching software, on a production version of Cavium's single chip 32-core OCTEON II CN6880.

OEMs will now be able to add more layers of deep packet inspection, using a combination of OCTEON optimized versions of Sensory Networks HyperScan or Chimera software libraries and OCTEON II's in-built hardware Hyper Finite Automata (HFA) DPI Engines, company officials stated.

“Cavium's flagship 32-core OCTEON II 68xx has delivered excellent performance in all our benchmarks," said Geoff Langdale, CTO for Sensory Networks. "We are particularly impressed at how linearly the performance scales on a per core basis. Cavium's strong multiprocessor support and providing real cores versus pseudo cores makes Security Inspection performance highly predictable on the OCTEON architecture, even for emerging products.”

Recently, the company announced that its HyperScan library has provided DPI throughput of 160Gbps with linear scalability. Using the new Intel (News - Alert) Xeon processor E5-2600 family and Intel C604 chipset, scanning against a tier-1 commercial IPS signature set, this was based on an intensive benchmark of HyperScan on a dual-socket platform (8-core, 16 threads per socket). Extending from the Intel Atom processor to the highest performing Intel Xeon processor, HyperScan fully scales across Intel architecture.
