The Open Networking Foundation (ONF) is a not-for-profit consortium committed to the transformation of networking with the help of the development and standardization of a unique architecture called Software-Defined Networking (SDN). Looking to change how virtually every company with a network operates, the mission of the foundation is to commercialize and promote SDN and the underlying technologies as a disruptive approach to networking.
Recently, 6WIND, the gold standard for data plane processing in software-defined networks, announced that it has joined the Open Networking Foundation.
6WIND offers solutions that neatly complement the products from other ONF member companies as a commercial supplier of high-performance data plane software in SDN-based applications. According to the company, apart from accelerating advanced networking functions, this gets rid of important data center performance bottlenecks.
The 6WINDGate Cloud Edition software offers a solution to the important data center networking performance challenges, based on innovative data plane processing technology widely used all over the world in mobile infrastructure applications such as LTE (News - Alert) gateways, the company stated in a press release.
“6WIND is delighted to become a member of the Open Networking Foundation,” said Eric Carmès, CEO of 6WIND. “Our proven technology for high-performance data plane processing delivers critical business advantages for data center operators as they work to address both CAPEX and OPEX (News - Alert) challenges in the face of on-going increases in users, in data traffic and in cloud workload complexity. We expect to contribute unique expertise to the further evolution of SDN standards developed by ONF.”
Recently, the company announced that its software has achieved industry-leading TCP Termination performance for network appliances based on standard multicore processors.
