SIP Trunking Report Week in Review

The SIP trunking space was abuzz with activity this week, thanks in part to ITEXPO (News - Alert) Miami 2014. Here’s a look at some of the top stories.

Kicking things off this week, privately owned, Australian VoIP provider FaktorTel acquired ATPNet’s subscriber base and trademark. This deal expanded FaktorTel’s customer base by about five percent and is apparently just the first step in the company’s expansion plan, which will include further acquisitions.

Next, ADTRAN (News - Alert) expanded its ActivReach Ethernet switch portfolio with the introduction of the NetVanta 1235P Ethernet Switch with ActivReach. The switch is purpose-built to speed up VoIP deployments with 10/100 Mbps voice, data and PoE over legacy voice-grade wiring. The NetVanta 1235P is also able to reduce disruption, cost and network downtime, allowing businesses, hosted service providers and VARs to quickly and easily provide enhanced VoIP applications.

In other news, TMC (News - Alert) recognized Votacall with its CUSTOMER 2014 Product of the Year award for its Hosted VoIP System. The cloud-based IP phone system is designed for use in call centers and related applications and is a key solution in a sector that’s set to explode in the coming years. Indeed, it is designed specifically to replace a company’s traditional phone system with easy deployment and minimal expense, making it an attractive option for companies looking to switch to IP telephony.

Moving things along, magicJack VocalTec (News - Alert) named Seth Cummings as its new executive vice president of marketing. In this role, Cummings will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of marketing platform development and brand development for magicJack across online and retail distribution. He will also manage the customer experience of the company’s device and mobile app offerings, while overseeing retail expansion into prepaid indirect channels.

Ending the week with a bit of ITEXPO news, VoIP Supply exhibited at the communications event this week with two representatives on hand at its booth to answer questions about products and solutions. The VoIP provider also decided to document the event itself by interviewing manufacturers at the show about their new products.
